Jens Spahn (CDU/CSU Party, Germany) just killed the EU Plans for Chatcontrol
Wtf just happened
On October 7th, 2025 at 3:45 PM, something rather unexpected happened. Jens Spahn — a politician usually known for being under fire for his statements — effectively ended the EU’s plans for chat control.
During a public statement, Spahn declared:
“We [...] are against the warrantless monitoring of chats. That would be like opening everyone’s letters just to see if something illegal is inside [...] That’s not acceptable.”
With this, Spahn didn’t just reject the idea of chat surveillance — he also indirectly confirmed that the right to privacy in correspondence extends to digital communication. And since Germany’s support was crucial, this marks the turning point: without Germany, the EU can no longer push the law forward.
Personal thoughts: I’m honestly really happy about this. We achieved the impossible. To everyone who wrote letters and emails, made calls, took to the streets, and spread awareness — thank you. This victory belongs to all of us.
